WCARTE History and Purpose

The World Council for ARgentine Tango Events (WCARTE) was formed to promote the Argentine Tango in a variety of venues, culminating in our biggest annual event, the INTERNATIONAL ARGENTINE TANGO SHOWCASE/COMPETITION. On February 3-5, 2005, WCARTE presents the 2nd International Argentine Tango Showcase/Competition at the Inn-Suites Lafayette Hotel in San Diego, CA.

The purpose of this competition is to encourage the growth and development of the Argentine Tango worldwide. The rules have been prepared to assist and contribute to the growth of the Argentine Tango in the international arena.

Today the Argentine Tango is known not only as a social dance--which is its origin--but also as a medium for artistic expression on stage or as social entertainment for couples dancing and for spectators. WCARTE has created competition categories to honor the performing artist, the social dancer, and the instructor.
